Intelligence in Evolution 2

It has always been a firm belief of mine that the next evolutionary change for the human race resides in the brain/mind. Those in control of our TV programs apparently echo this sentiment, as there are a number of shows dealing with mind powers currently on the air. Just to name a few, we have Heroes, Painkiller Jane, Ghost Whisperer, and StarGate Atlantis (next weeks episode).

While some of my recent clients have desired to reduce their IQ, I'm working to find a way to increase my own. I'll keep you posted.

Intelligence in Evolution

Last night I was struck by an epiphany:

There is no madness. Only ways of adapting. Intelligence in evolution.

All day I've been pondering this little piece, to no viable conclusion. Then, just a bit ago, I did a Google for the last line. Among the many hits, I found this: "Human intelligence has evolved steadily over the course of thousands of generations without drastic change in the environment." Let this ponder a bit - "Human intelligence has evolved steadily over the course of thousands of generations without drastic change in the environment." So, does global warming indicate a drastic change? Are we on the brink of an intelligence evolution? Note that I did not say an intelligent evolution. Judging by some of my neighbors, I'd say we haven't had one yet. BUT, our brains may be getting ready for an extreme make-over, in order to better handle the changes our planet is going through.

Where Is The Year Going?

Before you know it, it'll be June. Seems like only yesterday it was January. Somebody stop the clock, please. It's moving too fast.

Dear Birthday Fairy

My 44th birthday is less than a month away. I only want three things for my birthday this year - a new computer running XP Pro, a 19" LCD monitor and a new desk chair. That's it.

Oh the many thinks to think!

Sounds Dr. Seuss-ish, but it's true! I have many thinks to think, and sometimes they all try to be thunk at once. It gets frustrating at times, but I'm doing my best to deal with it.
All I ask is that other people do the same. When I'm spekaing with you, and it appears I've stopped mid-sentence, please do not try to finish my thought for me. I'll get to it eventually, or not. In any case, just be patient. Please.

Thought for Today

Happy Friday the 13th!

Today's thought comes from the book of Meditations by Thomas Moore:

Because the life of a monk is essentially a withdrawl from the world, it's necessary for the monk almost every day to say no to some invitation from modern life. Monasteries are often diffcult to approach physically. They may have long entrance drives, stout gates and fences, heavy doors, loud bells, a labyrinth of corridors, and notices in Latin. These are ritual forms hinting at a crucial spirit that resists modern culture.
If we are to don the metaphoric costume of the monk in our quest for spirituality, we might learn this art of indirection and concealment, ulitmately a means for preserving one's own spiritual integrity. The world should have a diffcult time gaining entrance.

Cerebral TV

Yes, I know, that's kind of an oxymoron. But, there are some shows on that I really enjoy because they make me think. My two favorites on Thursday night are CSI and Shark. Unless these are repeats, I won't be found on the 'Net when these shows are on.
I also like the History Channel's shows Ancient Discoveries (our ancestors weren't as stupid as scholars thought) and Engineering an Empire. I also like Modern Marvels and How It's Made.

For suspension of disbelief, I like the SciFi channel, although I am quite cross with them for wanting to end Stargate SG-1. I don't think Stargate Atlantis has the steam to keep the franchise going.

So, that's my TV viewing in brief.

Putting Myself Out There

The thought has occured to me to once again take the path of least rejection (hah!) and submit an idea to the Civic Innovation Lab. If it's accepted, I could get up to $30,000 to begin the process that is my idea. For this time around, I'm going with the Motivator. Nobody but me knows what idea has that name (insert maniacal laughter here), but it's a good one. :-)

So, the next deadline that I can reach is July 2, 2007. That gives me plenty of time to polish this idea up and all the trappings that go with it.

What to write?

Some things are happening. Some things are not. My new meds alternate me between mania and depression at a much more pronounced state. It's hard to speak or think clearly sometimes. It's frustrating. But, I promised myself that I would give the meds more of a chance this time.

Am I me, or am I the me the drugs make me? And what kind of me do the drugs create, hmmm?

Where does the time go?

Yikes! We're a quarter of the way thru this new year! Where does the time go?!?

Maybe I'll catch up in the next quarter. Maybe not. Gods know, I've got a lot to do. Clean the basement... Get stuff together for the yard sale at the end of May... Finish getting our stuff out of Ana's friend's house... Find a place for said stuff... And on, and on, and on.

New ideas keep popping, and some even look like I could prototype them with the materials and funds on hand. So, things are looking up.

Here's to looking forward to them continuing that way. :-)
